Trauma-Informed Healing Begins with Awareness 🌿
This week, our Institute had the honor of leading a Trauma Awareness & Informed-Care Seminar for fellows at the UCLA Center for East-West Medicine.
🌀 Trauma is not rare — it’s common, often unspoken and unconscious, and deeply woven into the body and soul.
✨ When unhealed, it echoes through physical illness, mental health, and disconnection.
💡 In this session, we explored:
— The biology of trauma and stress
— Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and the lasting imprint on health and wellbeing
— Often unnoticed signs of dissociation and nervous system overwhelm
— The shift from “fixing disease” to facilitating healing
— Creating trauma-responsive spaces in healthcare
— An Eastern lens: how trauma depletes jing (essence), stagnates qi (vital energy), and disturbs shen (spirit)
— Healing as nonlinear: a spiral path of remembering, reclaiming, and reweaving wholeness
— Post-traumatic growth: meaning, insight, and reorientation toward life
🔄 Healing trauma isn’t about erasing the past — it’s about creating safe containers to reclaim agency, deepen self-awareness, and restore the body’s capacity to feel, connect, and heal.
🛠️ We shared practical tools: breathwork, body-based practices, integrative strategies, somatic care, and the potential of psyche.delic-assisted therapy.
👥 Trauma touches both patients and providers. Doing this work helps us all become more grounded, compassionate, and whole.
🧭 From surviving to reclaiming wholeness.
🕊️ From “What happened to you?” to “What have you been carrying, and how has it shaped you?”
👐 From isolation to belonging.
🌱 From fragmentation to integration.
🌀 From overwhelm to embodied presence
