🌿✨ This past week, we had the honor of lecturing at the UCLA East-West Medicine’s – MED 185 Summer Integrative Medicine course on a topic that lives at the root of our healing work: Shamanism as Integrative Medicine.
Long before mind and body were split…and spirituality was mostly removed from medicine…
Healing was a communal, sacred act—deeply embedded in nature, ceremony, and relationship.
🌀 Shamanism reminds us that we are spiritual and nature beings having an embodied experience—and that illness impacts the whole web of our being: body, mind, soul, and community.
And healing involves working with all those layers.
In many traditional lineages, non-ordinary states of consciousness—accessed through drumming, ritual, nature, breath, or sacred natural medicines ala allies—have long been pathways to connect with the unseen, remember who we are, and restore harmony.
We offer gratitude and respect for the indigenous communities that have and still to this day keep their communal healing practices alive.
Shamanic practices are nearly universal, and valuable to study, research and reflect on as individuals, medical doctors, health professionals and healers.
